Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started & Document Management

Do I need to create an account to start scanning?
No! You can start scanning immediately without signing up. We use your device's local storage (IndexedDB) so you can scan, edit, and save up to 3 documents directly to your phone or computer right away.
Where are my documents stored? Are they safe?
Unlike other scanner apps that lock your sensitive data on their own proprietary servers, we put you in control. When you create an account, your documents sync directly to your personal Google Drive. You own your files, and we never hold your documents hostage.
Can I access my scanned PDFs across different devices?
Yes. Because OnlineScanner.app syncs seamlessly with your Google Drive, any document you scan on your phone will instantly be available on your desktop, tablet, or laptop. Any changes, renaming, or deleting you do on Google Drive will instantly reflect in our web app.
Do I have to download a bulky app from the App Store?
No. OnlineScanner.app is a Progressive Web App (PWA). This means you can use it directly in your browser or click "Install" at the bottom of the screen to add it to your home screen for a native app experience—taking up zero storage space on your device!
What features are included in the app?
We offer a complete suite of professional PDF tools, including world-class auto-corner detection, ID card front/back scanning, adding signatures, merging PDFs, splitting pages, and sharing specific pages securely.

Pricing, Payments & Subscriptions

Does this app have hidden auto-renewal charges?
Absolutely not. We hate surprise credit card charges as much as you do. Our premium plans ($2/month or $15/year) do not auto-renew. When your plan expires, it simply expires. You only pay again if you actively choose to renew.
Is there a free trial?
Yes! Every new user gets a full 15-day free trial with complete access to all premium features, including unlimited Google Drive sync and advanced PDF editing tools.
What happens when my 15-day trial ends?
You will never be charged automatically. If you choose not to upgrade, your app simply switches to our free tier. You can still scan documents and download them to your device's local folder, but premium features like Google Drive sync, PDF merging, and unlimited local storage will be disabled.
Are there watermarks on my documents?
No. We believe your documents belong to you. We never place ugly watermarks over your professional scans, even if you are using our free version.
Do you store my credit card information?
No. All payments are processed securely through our trusted payment partners. We do not store or have access to your credit card data, ensuring your financial information remains completely private.

Google Drive Privacy & Security

Why does OnlineScanner need permission to access my Google Drive?
We ask for permission so we can save your scanned documents directly to your own storage, ensuring you always have ownership of your files. This prevents you from being locked into a proprietary cloud system and ensures your documents sync seamlessly across all your devices.
Can OnlineScanner see my personal files, photos, or emails?
Absolutely not. We use Google’s strictest and most secure permission level (known as the drive.file scope). This means our app is completely blind to your personal Google Drive. We cannot see, read, modify, or delete your photos, spreadsheets, or personal documents. The app only has permission to interact with files that were specifically generated by OnlineScanner.app.
What exactly does the app do inside my Google Drive?
When you connect your account, we simply create a single dedicated folder named "OnlineScanner". Our app is strictly limited to managing the PDFs that it creates inside that specific folder.
What if I manually drag a personal file into the "OnlineScanner" folder? Can you see it then?
No. Even if you manually move one of your own private documents into the "OnlineScanner" folder, our system cannot see it or access it. The app only has permission to interact with files that were specifically generated by OnlineScanner.app.
Is it safe to revoke permissions later?
Yes! You can revoke Google Drive permissions at any time from your Google Account settings. If you do, your previously scanned documents will safely remain in your Google Drive, untouched.
